229, and some random ramblings

This morning was my weigh-in, and at 229, I am through the 230s. When you’re working to lose as much weight as I am, those markers make a big difference. I’m planning on celebrating another ten pounds down with some fresh roasted fair trade Tanzanian Peaberry coffee from Just Love.

Tonight, I’m also having dinner with my parents. My mom and dad live about fifteen miles away, but with my schedule, I don’t get to see them as much as I’d like. That might prove to be beneficial this time, though. The last time my parents saw me, I weighed over 260. This should be fun.

This weekend, I had two nights in a row where Jen and I went out with friends. In both cases, there was drinking involved, as well as a selection of undoubtedly delicious food that was neither lean nor green. Before I began this program, I was concerned that social pressure would force me into new habits when I was out with friends. We all know former smokers that fall into this category. They go nine months without lighting up, but as soon as they hit the club, their puffing like Thomas the Tank Engine with emphysema. Honestly, however, it hasn’t been that difficult. I’m not a big drinker (in fact, I wasn’t permitted to drink until a month ago), and the comments about my weight loss more than overcome any desire I have to gobble appetizers like a starving Pac-Man.

I did get the chance to play some games with a group of good friends. I’m a big board and card game fan, possessing a collection that has filled one closet and is threatening to spill over into another. Last night, we broke open a game that I’d heard a great deal about but hadn’t had the chance to play. It’s called Cards Against Humanity, and it’s inappropriate for anyone under the age of 75. If you’re easily offended, this is not the game for you. With that disclaimer, it was also some of the most fun I’ve ever had. We were howling with laughter, and will be playing this again. Many, many times. (A quick plug: if you’re interested in the game, the creators will allow you to download a PDF of the cars for free. Just click the link above to get an idea what it’s about.)

This is the damn inspection tag from Cards Against Humanity, and it’s hilarious. It’s also the only thing in the box I can post a picture of without causing Southern belles to fan themselves and get “the vapors”.

That’s pretty much it for today. Still losing weight, still kicking all kinds of ass in the program. If you’ve got a particular subject you’d like me to weigh in on, let me know on my Facebook page. Or just say hi. That’s cool, too.
